About Tillerfolk

Bob started Tillerfolk School Of Boating 18 years ago after a career in Adult Education . Born next to lock 14 on the Stourbridge "Sixteen" in the 1940s he has had a lifetimes interest in canals , narrow boats and the people who live and work with them .

He has been involved with many TV programmes about boating and mentioned in newspapers as diverse as The Times and Towpath Talk . However , his favourite saying is "Beware of people who say they know all about narrow boating .... I learn something new every time I go out on canal or river ...." Recently he has been filming for a safety DVD used by many hire fleet companies

He has known Tom Keeling for many years and watched him develop from an enthusiastic “Saturday Boy” at a boatyard to an highly qualified marine surveyor and expert legal witness in that field. Tom has also held RYA Instructors licences for both Power Boats and Inland Waterways craft.

Tom has run a rescue station for the Severn Area Rescue Association where he gained first hand experience of helping boaters in difficulty after they have underestimated river conditions
Both have relaxed teaching styles . . encouraging , and reassuring all clients at every stage of the RYA curriculum

Tillerfolk is subject to an Annual Inspection by the RYA , and has always passed with flying colours

We are located in Worcester Marina, Lowesmoor Wharf, Worcester WR1 2RS.

This means we have access to the Worcester Birmingham canal and the River Severn. Conditions permitting our courses include passing through narrow and broad canal locks plus navigating a staffed lock at Diglis on the river. We believe we are the only training establishment to offer this variety of experience.
